Course Content:

  • Legislation – Review of applicable Provincial Legislation
  • Rigging equipment and inspection requirements
  • Protection of rigging equipment while in use, and proper storage practices when equipment is not in use
  • Determine weight, centre of gravity for loads and appropriate hitch for the respective load
  • Review proper sling angles and increased tension impact on the load – Includes how to calculate reductions when using a choker hitch-sling (wire rope, single-part, mini-part), rigging components, sling ends, eye and sling choker hooks
  • Proper selection of correct hitch, select the correct sling, correct rig setup, lift clearances, use of tag lines or tethers to control unwanted movements and prevention of shock loading the rigging by dropping the load
  • Use of alloy steel chains, wire rope slings, using the D/d ratio, synthetic webbing, shackles and hooks, straight slings, choker slings and basket slings
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) considerations for Crane Operators and Rigging Crews
  • Review of hand signals
  • Review of company / client procedures if available prior to training
