WORKING AT HEIGHTS CERTIFICATION

Falls are a major cause of injury and death in Ontario workplaces. The vast majority of these incidents are falls from heights. Most of these injuries and deaths have happened because fall protection was either misused or not used at all. Our WAH program will hopefully help put an end to such deaths and injuries from falls.

This program that you will instruct is a two part program part one is theory based and part two is practical based. Completion of this program may not be considered sufficient training. Additional training by the participant’s employer regarding the specific fall‐protection equipment and procedures they will use is required to cover the exact applications and the particular equipment, device, or system in use on the job.

Module 1 of the WAH training is completed within the 3 hour time frame with time for questions and evaluation. Ensure Module 2 is completed within the 3.5 hour time frame including evaluations.

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO COMPLY WITH THE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT REGULATIONS AND RELEVANT SECTIONS DEALING WITH FALL PROTECTION. CSA STANDARDS WILL ALSO BE COVERED.

Topics to include but not limited to:

  • Applicable Legislation/Standards/Guidelines
  • Hazard Recognition and Control – assessment is the key – can you eliminate the fall potential completely? Fall Protection is your very last option!
  • Components of Fall Protection Equipment – what is an anchor point and how would you determine suitability, what is a 3 point harness and how do I select the correct make/model? What is the shock absorbing lanyard and how would I know which length to purchase?
  • Proper care and inspection of Fall Protection Equipment
  • Proper donning and doffing techniques
  • Anchor points and fall distance estimation – have you got the right equipment?
  • Rescue and after the fall considerations (suspension trauma)
  • Practical Scenarios
  • Session will be designed around client specific equipment (make and model of harness/lanyard)
