NFPA 472 HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION

This certification course is ideal for any emergency response team wishing to achieve the highest level of response capability found under the NFPA 472 standard for Hazardous Materials Response. Your team will be fully offensive and capable of mitigating any chemical based emergency, using multiple levels of Hazmat specific equipment.

Topics to include but not limited to:

  • PROVIDE AND INTERPRET HAZARD INFORMATION- HAZARD SYMBOLS (WHMIS, TDG, NFPA), MSDS, 2012 ER GUIDE, NIOSH POCKET GUIDE, PERMEATION DATA GUIDES, GLOVE COMPATIBILITY CHARTS, AND MUCH MORE
  • PROVIDE AND INTERPRET INFORMATION REGARDING SPECIFIC CONTAINERS – SMALL MEANS OF CONTAINMENT (DRUMS, BOXES, CARBOYS, CYLINDERS), LARGE MEANS OF CONTAINMENT (TOTES, TANKS, PRESSURE SPHERES, TRANSPORTATION CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS
  • PROVIDE INFORMATION ON CHEMICAL CONCENTRATIONS – STREET SMART CHEMISTRY AND TOXICOLOGY
  • IMPLEMENT AND OPERATE WITHIN THE IMS SYSTEM – WHAT ROLES WILL NEED TO BE ESTABLISHED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THIS TEAM (OPERATIONS OFFICER, ENTRY TEAM ONE, ENTRY TEAM TWO, SCIENCE OFFICER, RIT TEAM, DECON TEAM, ETC.)
  • UNDERSTAND APPLICABLE LEGISLATION, STANDARDS, REGULATIONS
  • IDENTIFY AND SELECT CHEMICAL SPECIFIC PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT – LEVEL A, B, C, D – N95 RESPIRATORS - SCBA
  • IDENTIFY PROPER DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES – WET AND DRY DECON OPTIONS
  • DEVELOP A PLAN OF ACTION
  • PERFORM RESPONSE OPTIONS (OFFENSIVE VS. DEFENSIVE)
  • DON, WORK WITH AND DOFF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
  • PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE RESPONSE ACTIONS TAKEN
  • AIR MONITORING OPTIONS – TUBES , CHIPS, 4-GAS, 5-GAS, PID, AREA RAE SYSTEMS – LIVE AGENT MONITORING
  • SPILL MITIGATION TECHNIQUES – WHAT TOOLS DOWE HAVE HERE AND HOW WILL WE DEPLOY THEM
  • PROVIDE REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE INCIDENT DETAILS – PRE ENTRY BREIFING FORMS, MEDICAL EVAL FORMS, INCIDENT COMMANDER CHECKLIST, ETC.

PRE-REQUISITE: WHMIS, HMIS, HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS CERTIFICATION
